CARCOSEAL/ATLMP® - A Carcoseal designed for rolling mills...

All the advantages of our CARCOSEAL + the new profile of ATLMP – ANTI
TWIST LIP are combined to assure longer seal life in heavy duty applications
ATLMP :
A - Anti
T - Twist
L - Lip
M - Molla (spring)
P - Protetta (protected)
CARCO is always trying to keep up with the most stringent working conditions of
heavy industry and to offer sealing solutions for machines with higher
performance.
The following problem is experienced by heavy & light metals rolling mills,
particularly when equipped with big rolls. When the refurbished roll is being
fitted into the chock, a substantial number of oil seals are damaged. The lip
then is unable to seal and the spring can be damaged and come out of the groove
and get into the bearing, causing rolling mill shutdown and huge repair costs.
The oil seals can be damaged during roll fitting:
- If the lip of the oil seal is twisted back
- The spring can be damaged and can get out from its
groove
As consequences we may have:
- Leakage from the oil seals
- Contamination of the bearing lubricant
- Shorter lifetime of the bearing
- The oil seals have to be replaced
Carcoseal ATLMP special shape is made to prevent twisting back and to work as a
damper when roll crashes against the lip. The lip has a big chamfer to ease roll
fitting and the spring is protected and “closed” into its groove.
It is usually supplied in SCA version with lubrication grooves to have lubricant
between the 2 oil seals, fitted in “tandem” or "back to back".
All these features are in addition to the standard advantages of the Carcoseal:
- Lip with surface treatment “CARCOFLON” in PTFE:
- no stick-slip effect
- lip protection at machine start up and in case of dry running
- reduction of friction and of heat generation
- Available endless or split
- Easy fitting
- Re-usable after disassembling
Our first experience was at a large steel mill near Ravenna (Italy). They used
to fit metal cage oil seals with finger spring; during roll fitting around 25%
of oil seals had the lip twisted back and the spring heavily damaged, causing
bearing life to be shorter. The problem was completely solved with
CARCOSEAL/SCA/ATLMP in HT720.

Our three standard materials are designed to cope with this conditions . All our
products undergo our exclusive Carcoflon treatment which gives considerable
reduction of the unlubricated friction coefficient.
