Seals for ATEX environments

Seals for ATEX environmentsTo meet Atex requirements it is imperative that End Users work in partnership with seal manufacturers, in order to conform, many Employers need to carry out risk assessments on their sites hazardous operations.

For many environments where the presence of dust particles contributes to an ATEX environment the use of a conventional packed gland is no longer an acceptable sealing solution.

To meet the ATEX requirements it is imperative that End Users work with seal manufacturers to ensure the correct seal is specified for the environment in which it is to be used. As the MECO seal is designed and manufactured to suit the customer's application all the necessary considerations can be taken at the design stage to ensure they meet with ATEX directives.

Once installed the MECO seals provide a truly effective seal, containing the product and reducing air born dust particles significantly. Having provided an effective sealing solution, the benefits can also be noted in other components in close proximity, for example, prevention of bearing failure, which is identified as a possible ignition source.

Further ATEX considerations, such as the heat generated at the seal face are also important factors when preventing ignition. The MECO seal generates significantly less heat than that of conventional sealing methods.
